Our Mission

Provide vocational arts classes within a safe, friendly least restrictive environment, where students can increase life skills, job readiness and self esteem.

Creators Attributes Nurtured Vocational Arts School of Philadelphia, simply known as C.A.N.V.A.S. Philadelphia, facilitates classes to help students become confident, self aware and industrious.  By creating a network of education, art and vocational entities a vast array of resources become available to students in need.  
C.A.N.V.A.S. Philadelphia provides a mutually beneficial high quality learning environment for students and community stake holders by providing engaging classes that train students to care for themselves and/or become qualified to fill job openings.

 

The team of highly qualified instructors, community liaisons and partners work hard to make adding hands on experience to the theory taught in the classroom easy.  

Steven Johnson

 

Steven Johnson Sr. M.A. (Founder) is a 1975 Alumni of Philadelphia College of Art was (currently known as The University of the Arts) a graduate level teacher, professional artist and the original founder of Steven Johnson's Creators Heritage the predecessor  to C.A.N.V.A.S. Philadelphia.  The late Steven Johnson Sr., during his life, used his being an artist who was paraplegic to encourage others to accomplish beyond all so called limitations.

C.A.N.V.A.S Philadelphia has now become a be a Compensatory Education provider, helping transition age students in need of hands on vocational skills training, career exploration and related services including, but not limited to travel training and employment etiquette with a focus on job attainment and retention.
